Sara Abel, 38, of Canton Dies After Single-Vehicle Crash Along U.S. Route 62
Sara Abel, 38, of Canton, Ohio, died Thursday evening, October 15, 2026, following a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 62.
Abel was driving west near milepost 24 at approximately 7:50 p.m. when the 2018 Chevrolet Acadia left the roadway and entered the grassy median.
The SUV struck a ditch, a culvert, and an overhead traffic signpost.
Canton Fire Department crews transported Abel with life-threatening injuries to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where Abel died later that evening despite medical efforts.
No passengers occupied the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The Stark County Sheriff’s Office, Canton Fire Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and a local towing crew assisted at the scene.
Investigators continued examining the circumstances surrounding the crash on Friday, October 16.
Abel’s sudden passing leaves family, friends, and the Canton community mourning a profound loss.
