Edward Lelburian Jackson Identified Through DNA Testing Decades After Death Near Lake Mead, Nevada

Edward Lelburian Jackson, an Arkansas resident believed to have been in their 50s, died in the early 1980s under circumstances that remain under investigation.

A visitor found Jackson’s remains inside a corroded metal barrel in Lake Mead’s receding waters in May 2022.

Light blue jeans, a striped short-sleeved button-down shirt, Velcro sneakers, and a silver Timex watch remained with Jackson.

Investigators initially estimated that the death occurred between the mid-1970s and early 1980s based partly on the clothing and footwear.

DNA testing later confirmed Jackson’s identity, which authorities announced on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

Investigators believe someone discarded the barrel when Lake Mead stood much higher and the location may have been hundreds of yards offshore.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about Jackson’s death or named anyone responsible.

Jackson’s identification restores a name to remains that went unidentified for decades and offers a measure of recognition to their memory.
